The Question of the Week
September 23rd, 2007

After hearing, reading and reflecting on this Sunday’s readings…

Name a time when you shared something with someone who did not have all that you have.

Discuss it over a family dinner!
Talk on your way to the mall!
Make it a weekly household tradition!

Blessing of the Animals

On Saturday, October 6 at 10am, Deacon John will be conducting a Blessing of the Animals in honor of the feast day of our Patron, St. Francis of Assisi.  The blessing will take place outside in the small plaza in front of the church.  All species welcome!

 Saint Vincent de Paul

This week, on September 27, the Church celebrates the feast of St. Vincent de Paul, who knew that “God had sent him to bring good news to the poor.”  Together with your gifts, the members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul continue his work and mission in our parish.

Join a St. Francis Cor Unum Meal Center Team

The new Cor Unum Meal Center at St. Patrick Church in Lawrence has been a very busy place the past year, feeding at times up to 500 people in an evening.  It's an amazing effort to feed the hungry and homeless in our nearby community.

St. Francis is assigned in five teams on Thursdays evenings, and we could use more help.  If you could spare one Thursday night a month (4:15 pm to 6:30 pm) to wait on tables, bus, work in the kitchen, etc.,your help would be most welcome.  We could especially use more men to help bus tables and carry heavy bins of dishes!

SPECIAL REQUEST:  If anyone could spare ONE hour once a month, we could use clean-up help on Thursdays from 6:30 to 7:30 (sweeping, mopping, dishes, etc).  The rest of the team is typically too exhausted after working a full day and doing a Cor Unum shift to tackle the clean-up.

Cor Unum is located on Rte. 28 near the Andover line -- not in the heart of the city.  Parking is available at the site.  In spite of the hard work, we leave there feeling like we've made a difference.  Please join us.  Call Debbie at 978-453-9882 or email debhovan@comcast.net.
